History Of The Event

History Of The Event

The Peacock family has a long history of hunting and fishing and their focus has always been on the fine table fare: elk, deer, moose, grouse, pheasant, ducks, geese and local rainbow trout. John describes “From as early as I can remember, every year my grandparents celebrated the harvest in late October in Kelowna. Over time, the Family Fall Game Feeds became less frequent as grandparents aged and grandkids and others became engaged in their own busy lives. Years later, while working together in our own business (Equinox Financial Group), my brother and I revived the old family tradition which began in its first year as strictly a family/close friends/several clients event held in my house. About 30 of us enjoyed a wild game feed and pie bake off in our first year.

The event was well received and grew rapidly. The following year John connected with Hans at the Bohemian and discussed turning the event into a customer appreciation event. John’s house remained the location for the following 4-5 years until it became too big to host from home. It eventually grew to exceed the capacity of the house. In later years, the event was moved to The Laurel Building complete with live band and over 250 clients and friends attending over the next five years. John reminisced, “Hans took in whatever wild game we could supply him with and created unbelievably delicious and creative cuisine. Every year as the event date approached, people would start to anticipate the menu that Hans would create! Many people we didn’t even know began to call in for tickets; word spread over the years about this unique event.

Last year, Hans and John decided that it was time to revive the event while tying it to a cause. Here entered Mike Ertel (client and friend of both Hans and John) who had some ideas on local charities. For the last two years, this event has benefitted local youth mental health initiatives through CMHA Kelowna. Now, here we are!
